Meet Annapurna Singh, Farmer’s Daughter From Bihar Village Who Secured AIR 99 In UPSC
Annapurna Singh is the first girl from her village to crack the UPSC exam.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) results were declared recently. One particular aspirant who grabbed the headlines is Annapurna Singh from Bihar’s Saran, who secured 99th rank. She’s the daughter of a farmer and is the first girl to bring glory to her village by passing the exam. Not just her family, but the whole community and the village are extremely proud of her achievements. Annapurna Singh’s father shared that she has always been studious and diligent about her studies. She credits her parents and well-wishers for being able to crack one of the most difficult exams in the country. In an interview with News18 Hindi, Annapurna Singh shared her happiness and said, “It is a great blessing of God that I have been selected in UPSC today. I did not expect that my rank would come within 100. But my well-wishers were confident that my rank would be good.”

She added that she attempted to crack the exam last year as well. Despite everything going well, her results were not good. This time too, she was worried about the results. But, after the results were declared, she felt good about herself. Annapurna Singh did not take any kind of offline coaching to prepare for her UPSC exams. During Covid-19, she took online coaching for a few subjects. She also revealed that she took coaching for interviews by participating in mock interviews.

Annapurna Singh, in the same interview, credited her parents. She said, “My parents have been the biggest support in this success. They were also very involved in my preparations. My friends started saying that you should write a book on your parents only. If I had not gotten the mental and emotional support of my parents in this exam, I probably would not have been able to crack it.”

She stated that UPSC is the kind of exam where one would need all kinds of support or else preparing for it can be difficult. She advised future UPSC aspirants to never lose patience and to prepare for the exams honestly. One will definitely achieve success.

Her father, Mukesh Singh is ecstatic and celebrating the success of his daughter. He proudly replied that his daughter had been brilliant since her childhood.

Annapurna Singh did her schooling in Patna and pursued her BTech when she went to Bengaluru. She also secured a job at Intel, one of the most famous tech companies in the world. She was reportedly working on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and 5G chips. When she returned home during Covid-19, she told her father that she wanted to appear for the Civil Services Examination (CSE). After two failed attempts, she finally cracked the UPSC exam.
