It was patience, perseverance, and extreme determination that made Aditya Srivastava, a native of Lucknow top the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Service Examination 2023. His father Ajay Kumar Srivastava, who works as an Audit Officer with CAG called Aditya’s success an icing on the cake, and said he called him over the phone from Hyderabad where he is undergoing IPS training to share the news.
“We are so happy for Aditya. Indeed, it’s big news. Though we were confident that Aditya would do well in the exam, we never thought that he would top the exam. Indeed it’s a proud moment for all of us, which is tough to describe in words,” Ajay Srivastava told News18.
He added this was Aditya’s third attempt. He attained 236 rank in UPSC last year and got selected as IPS and is currently undergoing training for the same in Hyderabad. While calling Aditya a child prodigy, he said since a very early age Aditya was exceptionally good in studies. “In class 8th, he prepared for the National Talent Search Exam. He remained the focussed child always and he never deviated from his path. And what we are seeing today is an outcome of the hard work, dedication, and patience,” Aditya’s father added.
However, despite being extraordinary in his studies, Aditya failed in his first attempt. “In his first attempt, he prepared for the UPSC while working in Bengaluru. In his first attempt, Aditya could not clear the prelims,” he said.
But the failure didn’t demoralize him, he decided to prepare even harder. He left the lucrative job and started preparing again for the UPSC 2022 as a result, he cracked the exam and was selected for Indian Police Service.
“But, Aditya was not convinced with the result. He requested us to allow him to prepare for Civil Services 2023 for one more time and this would be the last try. I never stopped him from doing anything, I gave him a go-ahead. We are proud that his dream has come true. Both I and my wife supported taking the tough call of quitting the job,” the proud father said.
An alumnus of City Montessori School Aliganj branch Lucknow, Aditya cleared JEE Advanced in 2014, securing admission to IIT Kanpur. After graduating from there, he pursued a Dual Degree BTech/MTech programme. He then ventured into a lucrative job in Bengaluru, earning Rs 40 lakh per annum. However, his ambition for civil services led him to quit after 18 months.
Recently, he accomplished a remarkable feat by topping the civil service exam, drawing praise from Jyoti Kashyap, his school’s principal. Aditya’s journey from excelling in academics to pursuing a corporate career and eventually fulfilling his civil service aspirations highlights his versatility and determination.
In 2022, Shruti Sharma of Bijnor district in Uttar Pradesh has topped the UPSC 2021 examination.
