Pranav Goyal, JEE Advanced 2018 Topper, Shares His Success Mantra

Every year, lakhs of candidates dream of studying at the crème de la crème education institute in the nation, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). To enrol here, students have to crack the Joint Entrance Exams (JEE) and JEE Advanced exams. Only a handful of students get selected to study at this prestigious institute and get the best of their education. One such extraordinary student is Pranav Goyal, who topped the JEE Advanced in 2018.

Pranav Goyal is a resident of Chandigarh, who topped his JEE Advanced exams in 2018 and obtained 337 out of 360 marks from the IIT Roorkee zone. He claims to have achieved this feat by striking the right balance between working hard and having fun. Interestingly, in Class 10, he had a 10 CGPA and he also was the topper of the Tricity (Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali) in the non-medical stream of the CBSE Class 12 examinations. In 2018, he secured All India Rank 4 in the Jee Mains. He credited his accomplishments to persistence in studying.

He is a student of Bhavan Vidyalaya in Sector 15 of Panchkula. He shared that it was his hard work and sheer determination that made him successful. He shared that when he began preparing for JEE exams, he wanted to be in the top 10, but as time went by, he wanted to top the exams.

Pranav’s parents, Pankaj and Mamta Goyal jointly run a pharmaceutical company in Chandigarh. He had the support of his parents, along with his teacher, who guided and motivated him at every step, he also made sure to de-stress by reading mythological novels or watching films.

He was never obsessed with studying all the time. He just knew when to have fun without worrying about studies, and focusing on his academics when needed. It was this balance that truly helped him in achieving this feat. After topping the JEE Exams, he pursued BTech in Computer Science at IIT Bombay. His academic success did not stop there. He kept honing himself and knew the importance of continuous learning and global exposure. He is currently employed as a Quantitative Trader at Jane Street.
