SAT 2024: Eligibility, Application Fee And Exam Pattern

The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) exam is a standardised test administered by the College Board, taken by individuals who want to continue their higher education abroad, particularly in the US and European countries. On average around 10 lakh students appear for the SAT exam every year, of which about 25,000 are from India. The SAT Exam is almost two hours and fourteen minutes long and is divided into two broad sections i.e. Reading and Writing and Mathematics.

Eligibility Criteria:

The College Board has not set a specific age limit to appear for the SAT Exam. However, the most number of applicants are between 17 to 19 years of age.

The SAT exam is administered seven times a year and students can take the exam as many times as they want.

Unlike other examinations, the SAT exam eligibility does not specify any minimum educational requirement. However, students applying for undergraduate courses abroad are required to have passed Class 12 from a recognised board.

Students who are in their final year of schooling can also apply for the SAT exam.

Exam Pattern:

In India, the SAT exam is conducted 7 times a year at almost 90 centres across the country. The exam is conducted digitally via an app called Bluebook. To take the exam, candidates have to carry laptops, iPads, tablets etc. with them at the examination centre.

The exam consists of 54 questions from the Reading and Writing section and 44 questions from the Maths section. Each has a set of MCQ questions. Both sections are marked out of 800 and the total score is 1600.

Application Fee:

Indian candidates appearing for the SAT exam need to pay a registration fee of USD 60 (Around INR 5,000) and a regional fee of USD 43 (Around INR 3,588). Thus, the total SAT examination fee that Indian students need to pay is USD 103 (around INR 8,594).

SAT exam with Essay for International students is USD 117 (Around INR 9,762).
