On Wednesday, students at Maharana Pratap Group of Colleges created a ruckus, alleging that the CUET paper was leaked. The college, located in the Mandhana area of Chaubepur police station in UP’s Kanpur, saw students pelting stones on its premises. There was significant anger among students, many of whom had travelled from far-flung areas, after hearing about the paper leak. A heavy police force was deployed as hundreds of students went out of control.
DCP West Vijay Dhull reported that hundreds of students had gathered at the examination centre for the CUET entrance exam. The students claimed that the exam was scheduled to be held offline from 5 to 6 pm. However, even after the exam was over, students were seen sitting in many rooms. This unusual situation triggered the students’ suspicions and led to the protest.
As the situation worsened, the college administration called the police. The police attempted to calm the angry students, but their efforts were in vain. The students’ anger only grew, and they began pelting stones. In response, the police had to take strict action, which further aggravated the students. They started shouting slogans, alleging that exam papers were kept in the rooms.
The protest escalated when students started throwing stones to break the glass of the rooms. Female students were also actively involved in the chaos. Videos of the incident showed female students encouraging others to break the glass. The students were determined to prove their allegations about the exam papers being stored in the rooms. However, the police intervened and stopped them from breaking the glass, which caused further uproar.
The deployment of a heavy police force was necessary to control the situation. The college premises were filled with chaos as students continued to express their anger and frustration over the alleged paper leak. The incident highlighted the intense pressure and high stakes associated with competitive exams like CUET.
Authorities are now investigating the students’ allegations. Meanwhile, the situation at the college remains tense. The incident has raised serious concerns about the conduct and security of entrance exams. It also underscores the need for better communication and transparency from educational institutions to prevent such incidents in the future.
