Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao starrer Stree 2 is inching closer to the Rs 300 crore mark. The Amar Kaushik directorial film smashed box office records within a week of its release. For Aparshakti Khurana, who has been a part of both Stree and Stree 2, these numbers are ‘unprecedented’. In an exclusive conversation with News18, Aparshakti opened up about Stree 2’s success and whether he has found his ‘breakthrough’ role in the franchise.
Aparshakti Khurana reflected upon Stree 2’s box office figures and said he did not anticipate that the film would break records. He said, “This is not something which can ever run through your mind when you’re reading the script or acting in front of the camera. Rather, jab yeh soch rahe hote hain tab toh bilkul nahi hota. Also, it’s a wrong process for any artist to work like that. Of course, we were preempting good numbers, but these are unprecedented numbers.”
“These numbers are good for the producer fraternity. They will get more confidence and there will be more money in the industry. Of course, when you become a part of such a big franchise, you get a lot of attention and confidence. Some people have already started calling me and sending me scripts who wouldn’t have considered me earlier. I feel blessed, Stree 2 has been the talk of the town for the past week. Touchwood, people are also appreciating my work,” he said.
However, did working in an ensemble of celebrated actors add additional pressure on Aparshakti to perform better? He said, “Appreciation for your past work is not important. What matters is your background and your homework. Of course, Pankaj ji comes from a very hardcore acting background. It’s very important today that if such an actor is in front of you – even Rajkummar Rao is from FTII – who is not from FTII, even then your homework should be thorough. FTII and all doesn’t matter beyond a point.”
He added, “There’s no pressure. The moment you take pressure, you won’t be able to perform. It’s better to be organic, at least that’s what I think. Pressure lena hota phir main Delhi High Court main hi rehta, maine kyu actor banna tha? I was there for about a year and then I left that to work in radio and to act. Meri maa ko 10 saal pehle bhi pata tha ki main bohot versatile hoon, baakiyon ko abhi pata chal raha hai.”
Despite the Stree 2’s massive success, Aparshakti feels he has not had his ‘breakthrough’ in Bollywood yet. But this does not bother the actor. “I was watching Amitabh Bachchan’s interview and he said, ‘I’m still a learner.’ Jab humare desh ka sabse bada superstar, jinko dekh ke hum sab acting kar rahe hain, voh keh rahe hain ki voh abhi seekh rahe hain, toh main kya boloon? Of course, not. I’m still learning. He might have said that out of humility, but I’m genuinely still learning and touchwood doing the best things in my life,” he said.
The film Stree 2 is proving to be a box office juggernaut, showing impressive numbers in its first week of release. The film has earned a staggering Rs 275.35 crore in just seven days. Despite competition from films like Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein, Stree 2 has maintained its stronghold at the box office over the week.
