Arsenal fans made life hard for me: Adebayor
Arsenal fans made life hard for me: Adebayor
The Togolese has asserted that he is much happier at Eastlands.

New Delhi: Emmanuel Adebayor opened his goalscoring account for Manchester City in their 2-0 victory at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, and the forward has claimed that such performances will be much easier to maintain now that he has moved north from Arsenal.

Adebayor thinks that the Gunners support kept him down by refusing to back him and reacting negatively to whatever he did, whereas the City faithful have already seemingly made it clear to him that they love him.

"As a footballer, when you know that the club and the fans are behind you, it makes you want to give 100 per cent - and that is what happened on Saturday," he told The Manchester Evening News.

"It was very difficult for me at Arsenal. When I got the ball and tried to score a goal, even at home, the fans were still booing. That is something you cannot imagine."

"Now I am happy to be at a club where everyone loves me. The criticism I got at Arsenal was unfair. Clubs like AC Milan and Barcelona were in for me, but the fans could not understand why that happened."

"I don't know if they think I am a poor player, but the important thing for me was to change clubs. That is all behind me now - I achieved a lot of things there and my record is not bad at all. In my three years there I learned a lot, but now I am a City player, and that is where my focus lies. When I have the fans behind me I will always give 100 per cent."

Hamstring problems are also blamed by Adebayor for affecting his form last season, but the striker is looking forward to an injury-free period in which he can help City achieve great things.

"I am injury-free now, and I hope God will put his hand on me and keep me that way for the rest of the season. If that happens, I will keep working hard," he added. "This team can achieve things. At Blackburn we showed character and we showed personality. We showed on Saturday that in difficult moments we can fight together to achieve things."
