London: Chelsea coach Roberto di Matteo admitted that Friday's UEFA Super Cup encounter against Atletico Madrid brought back strong memories of his two greatest triumphs with the club.
The Italian returns with his side to the scene of the Blues' famous 1998 Super Cup win over Real Madrid at Monaco's Stade Louis II, where he starred in midfield 14 years ago. And leading Chelsea to Champions League victory over Bayern Munich in May.
Chelsea showed a remarkable aptitude for getting the job done in cup ties last season and will no doubt view this contest in the same vein as Roberto Di Matteo targets his third trophy within six months of taking the reins at Stamford Bridge.
But Atletico won this trophy as recently as 2010 and it's worth remembering that Diego Simeone's side finished fifth in La Liga while winning the Europa League last season – one place higher than Chelsea managed in the Premier League.
If the Premier League leaders are to win, they will have to do so without suspended captain John Terry. Atletico goal-machine Radamel Falcao will be the dangerman for Chelsea.
The Colombian has not only scored and won his two previous European finals but was also named Man of the Match. Both teams scored four goals in their last home game and with that kind of firepower available expect goals in this one.
