The recent international break for Portugal was a bag of mixed results. The 2016 UEFA Euro champions handed a 5-2 drubbing to Sweden in the first friendly during the international break with Cristiano Ronaldo having an off-day for his national team.
In the second game against Slovenia, though, Portugal manager Roberto Martinez put the talismanic number 7 straight into the playing XI.
Ronaldo, however, cut a frustrating figure as Portugal slumped to a 2-0 defeat.
After returning back to Riyadh, Ronaldo has started gearing up for the Saudi Pro League’s business end.
The 39-year-old is expected to play a major role if he hopes to help his club win the Saudi Pro League title this time.
Al Nassr, placed second in the league, are currently pursuing Al Hilal in the title chase. They have 56 points with 10 games to go, 12 points less than the table-toppers.
Ronaldo shared photos of him on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) after linking up with the club.
The former Real Madrid and Manchester United star looked lively and happy in pictures as he also shared a picture of him and coach Luis Castro hugging each other.
“Back”, the 39-year-old wrote.

Ronaldo and his teammates will want to end the season strongly as they are on track for a second straight runners-up finish having narrowly lost the crown to Al Ittihad last year, even though cutting down such a massive margin will be a huge ask.

Ronaldo has been in fine form this season, scoring 36 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions, 23 of those coming in the league.
Meanwhile, the Portuguese football team are scheduled to play three friendlies before the start of the European Championships in Germany later this year. They will face Finland (June 5), Croatia (June 8), and Ireland (June 12) in the lead-up to the 2024 European Championships. They have been drawn alongside the Czech Republic, Turkey, and Georgia in Group F.
