London: Chelsea manager Andre-Villas Boas has given a positive diagnosis on striker Didier Drogba after he appeared to suffer a serious injury against Norwich City.
After a nasty collision with visiting goalkeeper John Ruddy and a hard landing, Drogba lay motionless on the Stamford Bridge pitch for almost five minutes causing serious concern around the stadium, but it appears that the Ivorian has avoided any long-lasting damage.
The Blues went on to win the match 3-1 and there was good news after the match with the 33-year-old, who despite suffering a concussion, appearing to have avoided anything more troublesome.
"He is a little bit better now and he is coming around," Villas-Boas said at his post-match press conference. "He is going to go for all the full scans to assess what the full extent of the head injuries and the concussion is, but he has made steady progress since he has fallen and is showing some signs of recovery.
"I have to compliment my medical staff for being able to react straight to what was a potentially dangerous situation.
"He lost consciousness completely on the pitch and I have to be very, very grateful not only to my players, but to the Norwich players for flagging how serious it was.
"I am happy the medical team arrived on time to bring back Didier to consciousness. We are just waiting for the full exams on his concussion and hopefully nothing is wrong."
Drogba has now gone through the scans at local St Mary's hospital and been given the all-clear, with Villas-Boas saying after the match there was no damage to any other critical areas.
"There doesn't seem to be any neck damage at the moment, no," added the head coach. "I haven't seen the incident up close, but it looked pretty nasty from the bench and it is natural physical contact from any game and one of those things that can happen."
