New Delhi: The curse of the Bridge came to an end - of sorts - as the Blues eased to a win over the Premier League's bottom side.
It was West Brom who had the first chance of the game, as Chris Brunt got a yard of space past Branislav Ivanovic but drilled his shot wide of Petr Cech's far post.
However, the Blues were back down the other end and ahead after just three minutes played, as Joe Cole's cross from the right hand side found none other than Didier Drogba, who out-jumped Gianni Zuiverloon to head past Scott Carson, who was rooted to the spot.
It continued to be all Chelsea from then on, but finesse was found lacking when it came to the final pass or shot, and though pegged back, West Brom did not find themselves under any concerted pressure.
Lampard was certainly central to all of Chelsea's best moves as their afternoon improved, with Ashley Cole playing him in just before the 20-minute mark, but the midfielder's shot was uncharacteristically off-target. He had another chance five minutes later when he robbed an injured Abdoulaye Meite of possession, but he soon ran out of options and was cut off by Zuiverloon.
Bosingwa and Lampard combined twice either side of the half-hour mark and even Ashley Cole had two chances on goal as the Blues were invited to throw all their men forward.
Chelsea were to be rewarded for all their possession on the stroke of half time, as they put the game beyond their visitors, when Ashley Cole's blocked shot fell kindly to Frank Lampard, who had the easiest of tasks to put the ball past Carson from close range.
Straight after the break, Juliano Belletti - who came on for Bosingwa at the break - played a one-two with Drogba before trying an audacious chip that went over the bar.
Just before the hour mark, Lampard had yet another chance on goal, but went for a fanciful chip that was well read and easily saved by Carson.
Nicolas Anelka came into the game for the first time soon after, as he went on a fantastic run past several West Brom players before losing the ball, only for it to fall to Drogba, who forced a quick save from Carson.
The game faded in the final 25 minutes, with neither side fashioning any genuine chances as Luiz Felipe Scolari's men returned to winning ways at home and West Brom remain rooted to the foot of the Premier League table.
