Drogba re-confirms desire to stay at Chelsea
The Ivory Coast striker is in the final year of his contract and has asked for a two-year extension.

London: Didier Drogba dismissed suggestions that he will leave Chelsea in the summer after helping his side to a spectacular 4-1 Champions League victory over Napoli on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old scored the opening goal and provided the assist for the winner as the Blues overturned a 3-1 aggregate deficit against their Italian opponents in extra time in the second leg at Stamford Bridge to enter the quarter-finals.

After the game, he told French TV station Canal+: "It's true that many people said that it will be my last match in the Champions League but the story continues."

"I hope my [Chelsea] adventure continues a long time yet. But I'm not master of my destiny. [I am] just hoping for more moments like this."

Drogba's future has been the subject of intense speculation recently, amid rumours that the Chelsea hierarchy wish to accommodate £50 million signing Fernando Torres in the starting line-up.

However, Drogba only wished to focus on a morale-boosting victory which sees Chelsea as the only remaining English side in Europe's elite competition.

The Ivorian international said: "It was important for us to qualify. Our spirit was more than positive - there was much joy in the end."

Meanwhile, Chelsea interim boss Roberto Di Matteo said he will have no say in whether or not Drogba leaves Stamford Bridge.

The Ivory Coast striker is in the final year of his contract and has asked for a two-year extension, but the club have so far rejected his wage demands. If a new deal is not agreed, he could leave for nothing in the summer.

"That’s not for me to discuss," the Blues boss told ESPN. "The club will make their decisions when it’s the time to make it. He’s been great for this club."
