Mumbai City FC attacker Brandon Fernandes believes that Indian Super League (ISL) is a tournament that will help him in the future and he is aiming to learn a lot from his fellow team-mates and the tournament on the whole.
Brandon is an attacking midfielder who can play out wide and also up front, making him an asset to any side which has him. Although he is yet to make debut for Mumbai City FC, he is surely a player for the future.
"This is my first time in ISL and I am aiming to learn a lot from it. There are good players all around and I am expecting a lot in future matches. So far it has been a good start - that I am sharing a dressing room with one of the best players in football [Nicolas Anelka]," he told IBNLive.
Fernandes is a young and dynamic attacking midfielder hailing from Margao. In 2012 Brandon was strongly linked to play English football, having undergone trials with Reading FC and Leicester City but things didn't work out. However, he is happy that he is able to share the dressing room with former EPL star Anelka.
"Anelka guides the whole team and he has lots of experience playing in different leagues all around Europe - EPL, La Liga and many more. He shares his experiences with us and tries to help one and all," he added.
Mumbai City are currently sixth on the points table and are having an inconsistent tournament so far but their new signing Sunil Chettri has already made a mark in the tournament with six goals, including one hat-trick.
When asked how it is playing with India's star striker, Brandon said, "I know Sunil Chettri before ISL. He is a great player and will surely improve Mumbai City FC in future - tremendous striker."
"We (Mumbai) have one goal - to perform on the pitch, try to score as many goals and win matches. We just want to give our best and rest we have to see where we can end up," he further said.
During the ISL auctions, Mumbai City spent a decent amount of money on Brandon but he was quick to point out that once the players are on the pitch, they are there to give 100 percent.
"I am young, so I have to focus on my game. I can't allow the price tag to put me under pressure. I have to keep performing on the pitch, and price really does not matter when you are on the pitch," he said.
