Manchester: Manchester City's Carlos Tevez could be closing in on a deal to join AC Milan in the near future after the Italian club's vice-president Adriano Galliani revealed he has been given permission to speak to the striker.

Tevez, who has been frozen out of first-team affairs at Manchester City since his alleged refusal to feature against Bayern Munich in the Champions League almost three months ago, is said to have his heart set on a transfer to the Serie A champions – and a deal could be on the cards.

Galliani told Gazzetta dello Sport: "Tevez is a City player. The English club has authorised us to speak to his agent but we haven't spoken directly to City yet.

"We don't know what City want.

"I prefer not to speak too much about Tevez, otherwise his price will go up and this is not good."

According to Sky Sport 24, Galliani had dinner with Kia Joorabchian, Tevez's agent, in Milan on Monday, to discuss a move.

It is reportedly the second meeting between Galliani and Joorabchian, after they previously met at Milan's headquarters in Via Turati 10 days ago.

However, Sky Sport 24 also claim that Brazilian champions Corinthians have already tabled a bid to the Premier League side, but it seems Tevez is set to shun their interest and pursue a move to northern Italy.

The news comes in quick succession of Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri's admission that he was unsure of Galliani's whereabouts after alluding to his club's interest in the 27-year-old.
