Kolkata: Keeping the December 31 deadline for fulfilling Asian Football Confederation's guidelines in mind, Mohun Bagan on Friday appointed Sujit Chakraborty as the team coach.
"Chakraborty, an AFC A license coach who has been in club coaching for a number of years, has joined the Mohun Bagan football team as coach. He will work under technical director Subhas Bhowmick and will join the team practice on Sunday," club's general secretary, Anjan Mitra, said in a statement.
Earlier, liquor baron Vijay Mallya had stepped down as director and chairman of Mohun Bagan as he was holding the same post with East Bengal.
He had to resign as AFC was against "cross-ownership" of clubs in a professional league.
Mohun Bagan and East Bengal are sponsored by two different subsidiaries -- McDowell and Kingfisher, respectively -- belonging to Vijay Mallya-owned United Breweries Group.
AFC has set a deadline of December 31 to fulfill the licensing criteria.
Any club which does not fulfill these criteria will not be allowed to play in the I-League 2011-12.
