Paris: Argentine footballer Angel di Maria has criticised Louis Van Gaal saying it was the Manchester United coach's philosophy which made him leave the English Premier League club, adding he was facing difficulties in adapting to them and that resulted in several rows between the two.

The footballer signed a British record transfer fee of 60 million pounds in August 2014 to move to United from Spanish giants Real Madrid but failed to adapt. He moved to French club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) earlier this month.

"Van Gaal has his philosophy and one of the things that made me want to leave is that. It is difficult to adapt to Van Gaal. I had a couple of rows with him," Di Maria was quoted as saying by ESPN Radio Argentina on Monday.

Di Maria said he was pleased with how life began in Manchester but things changed after his hamstring injury, when Van Gaal started using him in a different position.

"I started well and after that I got injured. Things didn't go well for me and Van Gaal changed my position," he said.

Di Maria has begun his PSG career impressively, providing an assist for goal just a few minutes into his debut, helping his new side win against Monaco 3-0 in a French league match.
