The state of Indian hockey has dipped further in the last few days. A few hours after Hockey India's special committee recommended the removal of chief coach Paul van Ass on Saturday, assistant coach Jude Felix stepped down stating personal reasons for his decision.
According to a report in the DNA, Felix confirmed that he had forwarded his resignation to HI.
"Yes, I have resigned from the job. I have an ailing mother to take care of. Also, I run a hockey academy for poor kids in Bangalore which needs my attention. So, I am going back," Felix said
The decision was taken after the Harbinder Singh-led committee recommended that Van Ass should not be continued with as the coach. But there is still no formal announcement yet as the committee’s job was to only give their recommendations on the matter.
India's men's hockey team is now without a coach and assistant coach an year before 2016 Rio Olympics. A turbulent phase in the sport has seen India losing their fourth chief coach in five years.
