Steps

Deleting Apps

Find the app you want to delete. App icons appear on your home screen.

Tap and hold the app’s icon. The icon will start to wiggle and an “x” will appear at its top-left edge.

Tap the x on the icon. A confirmation message will appear.

Tap Delete. This app will now be removed from your iPhone or iPad, which will free up some space. Repeat these steps to delete other apps you no longer need.

Offloading Apps

Open your iPhone or iPad’s Settings iPhone Settings App Icon. You’ll usually find this app on the home screen. Use this method if you want to remove apps to save some space without losing any of your app data.

Tap General.

Tap iPhone Storage.

Tap an app to offload. Choose an app you don’t use regularly but may want to use again in the future.

Tap Offload App. It’s the blue link below the app’s details. A confirmation message will appear.

Tap Offload App. This app is now removed from your iPhone or iPad.

Clearing Messages

Open the Messages app. It’s the green icon with a white chat bubble inside. You’ll usually find it on the home screen. Use this message to clear space by deleting unnecessary messages and their attachments.

Tap Edit. It’s at the top-right corner of the screen. Radio buttons will appear to the left of each message conversation.

Tap each message you want to delete. The radio buttons next to selected messages now contain check marks.

Tap Delete. It’s at the bottom-right corner of the screen. The messages and their attachments will now be removed from your iPhone or iPad. If you want to delete all messages prior to a certain date, try this: Open your iPhone’s Settings. Tap Messages. Tap Keep Messages. Select a time parameter. For example, if you want to keep only the messages received in the last 30 days, select 30 Days. Tap Delete.

Deleting Photos

Open the Photos app on your iPhone or iPad. It’s the multicolored pinwheel icon typically found on the home screen.

Select an album you want to clear out. The contents of the album will appear.

Tap Select. It’s at the top of the screen.

Tap each photo you want to delete. A check mark will appear at the bottom-right corner of each selected photo.

Tap the trash can icon. It’s at the bottom-right corner of the screen. A confirmation message will appear.

Tap Delete (number of) items. The selected items are now moved to the Recently Deleted album, which means they’ll remain on your iPhone or iPad until you clear that album.

Tap the back button to return to the album list. Proceed with this method if you want to clear the deleted items from the Recently Deleted album. This is the only way to reclaim space on your phone or tablet.

Scroll down and select Recently Deleted. A list of recently-deleted photos will appear.

Tap Select. It’s at the top of the screen.

Tap Delete All. It’s at the bottom-left corner of the screen. The photos in this album will be deleted from the phone or tablet, freeing up memory.

Restoring your iPhone or iPad

Open your iPhone or iPad’s Settings iPhone Settings App Icon. It’s an app typically found on the home screen. Use this method only if you want to completely wipe the data from your iPhone or iPad and start from scratch.

Tap General.

Tap Reset.

Tap Erase All Content and Settings. It’s the second option in the menu. This restarts your iPhone or iPad. When it comes back up, you’ll be given the chance to select a backup source or set the phone or tablet up from scratch.

Select Set up as New Device. This ensures your old apps and data are not copied back to the phone or tablet.

Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your iPhone or iPad. The space once occupied by the old apps and data on your iPhone or iPad is now available for use.
