How to Use CapCut to Slow Down a TikTok Movie: 3 Methods

Have you come across a TikTok that instructs you to "slow down with CapCut?" If so, you might be wondering how you can do this. Some TikTok users upload videos longer than 10 minutes that are sped up to get around TikTok's video length restrictions, and you can slow them down with CapCut so you can see the video at normal speed. In this article we'll teach you how to slow down videos in CapCut on mobile, desktop, and via CapCut's web application.

Things You Should Know

CapCut can be used on iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows, macOS, and in a web browser, but the video quality seems to be better when editing on a mobile platform.
Ensure the Pitch or Voice tone buttons are toggled on to make the audio on the video listenable, otherwise it will sound squeaky and impossible to hear.

Mobile

Download CapCut. In order to slow down a movie or video, you'll need the CapCut client. You can download CapCut from the Google Play Store or App Store.

Get a video file to slow down. A popular trend on TikTok is to post long videos that are sped up to fit within the 10 minute time frame. You can download these videos to slow down in CapCut so you can watch them normally. Open the TikTok app and navigate to the video you want to slow down. Tap the Share button and tap Save video. You can also do this method with a video you recorded yourself. Instead of downloading a video, simply record a new video or locate a video you already have on your phone. Downloading copyrighted material may come with a risk. If you download someone else's video, don't upload it anywhere else as this could be copyright infringement.

Open the CapCut app.

In the Edit tab, tap the big blue New project button. It is near the top of the screen.

Select your video. If you're using a video you downloaded or just recorded, it should be the first item under Recents. Otherwise, navigate to where you have the video saved.

Tap the blue Add button in the bottom-right corner. This will open your video in CapCut for editing.

Tap the Edit button in the bottom-left corner. The icon looks like a pair of scissors.

Select Speed in the bottom-left corner. It's one option to the right of Split and the icon looks like a speedometer.

Tap Normal.

Drag the slider to the left. If you drag the slider to the right, the video will get faster. Above the slider there is text that indicates how long your video will be after you slow it down. If you downloaded a TikTok movie that is supposed to be slowed down in CapCut, slowing the video to 0.1x is a good starting point if the original TikTok is 9 to 10 minutes long.

Tap the Pitch button in the bottom-left corner. If you don't select the Pitch button, the audio in the video will be impossible to hear. Selecting Pitch won't make the audio perfect, but it will make it passable enough to listen to and understand what is being said.

Tap the check mark in the bottom-right corner. This will apply the speed adjustment to your video.

Tap the Play button under the video to preview it. You can preview the video to ensure you're happy with the results. Note that the video will still have the TikTok watermark as well as any on-screen text the original poster placed on it. The video may have choppy frame rate or muffled audio, but it should be watchable.

Tap the arrow in the upper-right to export. When you're happy with the video, you can export it by tapping the arrow in the upper right. You must keep CapCut open and cannot lock your screen when the export is happening. If the video is long, the export process may take some time.

Desktop

Download CapCut. You can download CapCut as a desktop application.

Get a video file to slow down. Go to TikTok.com and find a video you want to slow down. You can right click (on PC) or control-click (on Mac) the video and select Download video to save it. Downloading copyrighted material may come with a risk. If you download someone else's video, don't upload it anywhere else as this could be copyright infringement.

Open the CapCut app on your computer.

Click the New project button. It is multi-colored, large, and near the top of the CapCut window.

Click the Import button in the library pane. This is in the upper-left corner of the window, and the word Import has a blue plus sign next to it.

Select your video.

Drag the video file from the library onto the timeline. The timeline is at the bottom of the screen and says Drag material here and start to create.

Click Speed in the upper-right corner. You will see a few options, such as Video, Audio, Speed, Animation and Adjustment. Speed is the option you want.

Ensure you are on the Normal tab and drag the slider to the left. This will slow the video down. You will see the video adjust in real-time on the timeline.

Toggle on iPhone Switch On Icon Voice tone change. This is similar to the Pitch option on mobile, and will help make the movie audio listenable. The Pitch option on mobile seems to do a better job than on desktop. You may notice your video sounds more muffled when editing on the desktop app versus your mobile phone.

Click the Export button in the upper right corner. The button is blue with an export icon on it.

Choose your video settings and select Export. You should be good to stick with the default settings, but feel free to play around with these if you want. If the video is long, the export process may take some time.

Web Application

Open CapCut. You can use CapCut as a web application as long as you sign up on their website.

Click the Create new video button. It is the first button in the upper-right corner of the screen.

Select Blank canvas for the video ratio.

Click the blue plus in the middle of the screen to upload your video. Select your downloaded video and it will appear in your project library. The video file should automatically be added to your timeline at the bottom of the screen, but if it isn't you can drag it there from the Media tab.

Click the Speed button on the right-hand side of the screen. It is the last option in the right-hand side menu, and the icon looks like a speedometer.

Drag the speed slider all the way to the left. You can play around with the speed slider to get the perfect speed for your movie, but most times you will want to reduce the speed to 0.1x. The timeline should reflect your speed changes in real-time.
