This AP Village In Kurnool District Is Famous For Its Primitive Rock Paintings
The rock paintings at Kethavaram were created during the Palaeolithic period.

There are many types of tourists in the world. Some prefer hill stations, while others prefer beaches. Then there are tourists with historical interests, who prefer to visit sites with evidence of prehistoric activity. In India, the Ajanta and Ellora caves are considered the most well-known caves, featuring prehistoric art and paintings. There is a place in Andhra Pradesh as well, which contains cave art that predates the Ajanta Ellora caves by centuries. It is situated at Kethavaram, which is a village in the Kurnool District of Orvakal Mandal. The rock paintings at Kethavaram were created during the Palaeolithic period. This is the most well-known ancient rock-art site in Andhra Pradesh. These paintings, which are found in rock shelters, were made about a millennia ago.

The majority of the paintings were straightforward red line drawings that showed everyday scenes like hunting, gatherings and parties. Experts assert that the pigments in these were formed from vegetable juice, tree milk, and animal fat and that they were created about 10,000 years ago. The brushes were most likely made of basic wooden sticks covered in animal — possibly goat – hair.

Even though the uncommon drawings at this location appear faded, tourists are nonetheless drawn to them. This could be regarded as one of the longest rock art series ever found. There are also depictions of humans, foxes, hyenas, dogs, tigers, humped bulls, rabbits, deer, lizards, and birds.

Kethavaram Rathivanas has been established as a tourist centre by the government. Although there is a road to Ketavaram village, which is about 24 km from Kurnool town, there is no proper road from the village to Rathi Vanas, so the tourist traffic has reduced a bit. Villagers say that the entire area has become deserted as tourists were initially interested in seeing it, but the lack of a proper road discourages tourists in recent times.
