Andhra Police arrested two alleged COI-Maoist members of the Chhattisgarh unit, Musiki Deva and Musiki Juhi.

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Police claim to have arrested a Maoist couple in the state's Khammam district. Police have arrested two alleged members of the Communist Party of India-Maoist's Chhattisgarh unit, Musiki Deva and Musiki Juhi.

Musiki Deva is the alleged commander involved in killing of a Mizo constable. Deva is Kunta Commander and Juhi is Dal Member. The couple was believed to be taking shelter in Andhra Pradesh and was wanted in four offences including the murder of a police constable.

"The arrests happened today (Saturday) morning. We had a tip off and we went and arrested them. They are charged in the killing of a constable in 2007. The couple belongs to the area committee of Maoists," said Khammam Superintendent of Police Kanti Rana.

Andhra Police on Friday had gunned down top Maoist leader and spokesperson Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad in a gunfight.

The shootout took place near Jogapur in Adilabad district, about 300 km from Hyderabad.

Another Maoist rebel, who is yet to be identified, was also killed. Police also recovered an AK-47, a 9mm pistol and two kit bags from the scene of the gunfight.

Azad, who carried a reward of Rs 12 lakh on his head, was a member of the central committee of the outlawed CPI-Maoist. Hailing from Krishna district, he was associated with the Maoist movement for four decades.
