PUDUCHERRY: A total of 28,076 candidates appeared for the entrance test for admission to the first year MBBS course for 2011-12 conducted by the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), which was held at 11 centres across the country, on Sunday.The renowned medical institution received 37,906 applications with 175 of them being rejected for various reasons. Call letters were sent to 37,731 aspirants. The details of the candidates were recorded in biometrics (iris, fingerprint technology-based time attendance) to check impersonation in the examination.According to Dr K S Reddy, dean of JIPMER, the results would be released either on Friday or Saturday.
