Nawada: A baby boy was on Sunday rescued and reunited with his mother, days after he was stolen in exchange for money from a government hospital in Nawada. The police said three persons were arrested for stealing the infant from a market in the Rajauli police station area in Bihar's Nawada district.
Acting on a complaint, the police raided a house in the market and recovered the baby boy and reunited him with his mother Ruby Devi alias Daulati, Deputy Superintendent of Police Md Sarfur Alam said. The three arrested have been identified as Rajni Devi, Sunaina Devi (mid-wife at the government hospital where the boy was born) and a quack on the charge of stealing the infant and selling him to Rajni Devi for Rs 20,000, he said.
Ruby Devi had given birth to a baby boy at a government hospital a few days ago, but she was told by the mid-wife that her child was born dead and instead the latter sold the infant to Rajni Devi for Rs 20,000, Alam said. Devi and her family members, however, suspected foul play and lodged a complaint with the police, he said.
