BHUBANESWAR: At least, four engineering students were arrested by police on Tuesday on charges of robbery and assault a couple of days back. Police investigation revealed that the four were also involved in chain snatching cases in the City. All the four studied in an engineering college located near Cuttack. They have been identified as Sandip Mohanty, Bikash Jena, Niladri Charan Champati and Manoj Mohapatra. An autorickshaw driver, Krushna Chandra Behera, too was held. Police said the four had intercepted one Saroj Kumar Das near Hotel Angan at Sahid Nagar and robbed him of ` 4,500 and a mobile phone. Interestingly, they also used the mobile phone handset. Police placed surveillance on it and tracked down the five. The students stayed in GGP Colony area of the City. Police alleged that they were involved in cases of snatching in the City in the past few months. Interestingly, a group of women residents of Nageswar Tangi on Tuesday met Police Commissioner BK Sharma and submitted that the locality has been witness to a spurt in chain snatching. In the last three years, at least 30 cases have been reported. The women were assured of action and beefed up police patrolling in the area.
