Pondicherry: Ninety polling stations have been identified as ‘hyper sensitive’ in Pondicherry and adequate steps have been taken to ensure smooth conduct of Assembly elections.
District collector G Theva Needhi Das said that the sensitive polling stations were identified by senior police officials.
Necessary steps have been taken to maintain law and order, he said adding all toddy, arrack and liquor shops would remain closed for three days during the polls.
The liquor vends will be closed from May 6 in Pondicherry and Karaikal regions going to polls on May 8 and from May one in Mahe and Yanam regions where voting would be held on May 3.
Das said that as many as 10,413 applications were received from 21 constituencies in Pondicherry region from those seeking reinstatement of their names in voters' list.
He said eligible voters would be included in the supplementary list being finalised by the department.
Copies of the supplementary rolls would also be made available to political parties within three days from last day of filing of nominations (April 12) in Mahe and Yanam and April 20 in the other constituencies.
He said nine complaints have been received on alleged violation of model code of conduct and necessary action has been taken.
Fourteen observers have been appointed by the Election Commission to oversee the poll process, he said adding five of them were expenditure observers.
