A Medical Student With A Successful Bakery At 19: Telangana Girl On Her ‘Cake’ Walk
Alagani Anvika, 19, a first-year BHMS student at Hamsa medical college in Telangana’s Hyderabad, is the owner of ‘Ann Bakes’

What started as a therapeutic escape with her pocket money during Covid time amid the challenging medical studies has now become a full-fledged business for 19-year-old Alagani Anvika. The first-year BHMS student at Hamsa medical college in Telangana’s Hyderabad is now the proud owner of ‘Ann Bakes’, earning in, what she says, lakhs every month.

Encouraged by the enthusiastic reception of her cakes, cookies and pastries, she decided to take her hobby to the next level. With an initial investment of Rs 80,000, she bought bakery equipment and raw material and started baking from her home kitchen. Leveraging social media platforms and word-of-mouth referrals, she quickly garnered a loyal following of customers. The eatery offers intricately decorated celebration cakes to artisanal breads and gourmet desserts, with rave reviews from customers.

“Baking has always been my creative outlet, a source of joy and relaxation amidst the challenges of medical school. To see it evolve into a successful business is truly a dream come true,” the daughter of a hotel businessman and homemaker said.

Anvika gets 95-120 orders a month. In her absence, her team of two women take and manage the orders. “When I am in college, my employees handle the orders and deliveries. After my college hours, I spend at least 5 hours in my bakery. Currently, I deliver in Hyderabad city only,” she said.

“My parents, friends and lecturers are supporting me a lot. My staff and family members support me to balance my studies. I want to create my own brand.”
