The demise of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Mavelikkara Bishop Paulose Mar Pachomios has sent Kurichi, his native place into bereavement.
His body was brought to St Peters and St Pauls Orthodox Church also known as Kurichi Valiyapally by 3.30 pm and kept there till 5 pm for the public to pay homage before taking it to Parumala church.
Mar Pachomios was born to K K John of Kurichi near Kottayam on 1946 January 26 . He completed his graduation and post graduation from Kerala University and got his BEd from Serambur University. He was ordained a priest on January 8, 1984. On December 19, 1992, he was ordained Metropolitan.
He was Metropolitan of Idukki and Angamali dioceses. He has also served as the manager of MD Corporate Management schools, president of the association for women and children for the church, Bishp vice-president of MGOCSM, superior of Ranni Perunad Bethany Ashram etc. The mortal remains of the Metropolitan was kept at Kuzhimattom Bethany Ashramam, Kurichi St Peter’s and Saint Paul’s church, Kurichi, Parumala Seminary, Puthiyakavu St Mary’s Cathedral and taken to Mavelikkara Diocesan headquarters by evening.
The body will be taken to Perunad Bethany Ashram at Ranny on Thursday after Holy Mass at the Bishop House at Mavelikkara.
The funeral ceremonies will be held at the Ashram at 2.30 pm. Baselios Mar Thoma Paulose II and other metropolitans will lead the ceremony.
Baselios Marthoma Paulose Catholicos has announced that all educational institutions of Orthodox church will remain closed on Thursday.
LDF convener Vaikom Viswan has said that the funeral procession will be excluded from the hartal called by the CPM in the state on Thursday.
Vehicles taking part in the funeral will also be excluded from the hartal.
