The Army recovered about 100 kg of explosives, believed to be RDX, from a forest in Kupwara.

Srinagar: In a major breakthrough, the Army on Wednesday recovered about 100 kg of explosives, believed to be RDX, from a forest in the border district of Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir, a defence spokesman said.

The recovery was made during a search operation at a forest near Zameendar Gali, he said.

This is the first time that such a huge quantity of RDX was recovered in Kupwara district, considered the gateway to the Kashmir Valley for infiltrators sneaking in from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Acting on a tip-off, the army launched a search and smashed a hideout in the forest. The explosives were found stuffed in two gunny bags along with 124 detonators, 14 improvised explosive device switches and an improved explosive device.

Terming the recovery as a "big success," the spokesman said a major effort of the militants has been thwarted with the seizure of such a large quantity of explosives.
