CHENNAI: Governor K Rosaiah on Sunday presented several persons who had excelled in different fields with the Achievers Award instituted by the Tamil Nadu Arya Vysya Maha Sabha.The awardees were chosen by the institution based on their contribution in their respective fields such as environment, education and health.Addressing the award winners, Rosaiah said that the Vysya community had contributed immensely to the development of the state through their acumen in matters of trade as well as in their social service.Pointing to 21-year-old Rekha Doss, an award winner who had become a commercial pilot at a young age of 18, he said that it was heartening to see women of the community, who usually confined themselves to the household, making a mark in a field like aviation. He hoped that such persons would inspire even more women to excel in various fields.The governor also said that the winners must not be content with just one award. They must aspire to contribute even more to the society.
