New Delhi: The condition of megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who underwent a successful surgery for intestinal inflammation at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital, is steadily improving. It would take at least a week before he can be discharged from hospital.
After Wednesday's surgery, in which doctors removed a portion of his small intestine, Bachchan's physical condition continues to remain normal, suggesting that the "healing process of the wound caused by perforation is also taking up smoothly," sources at the hospital said.
Bachchan has been put on intravenous fluids, antibiotics and vitamins and will not be allowed any any solid food for at least a week.
The nearly four-hour operation, which began at 1730 hrs (IST) and lasted till 2230 hrs (IST) on Wednesday, was conducted following infection, inflammation and perforation in Bachchan's intestine.
A veritable who's who of the film industry descended on the Lilavati Hospital to wish Bachchan on Thursday. A large number of fans also gathered outside the hospital gates.
