Aligarh: The mysterious death of Aligarh Muslim University professor Srinivas Ramchandra Siras is still to be solved.
The autopsy of Siras’ body on Thursday afternoon showed that there were no external injury marks on the body. The autopsy report said that maggots had covered his body. There was discharge from his nose, mouth and other body parts.
Siras had apparently died two-three days before his body was found. No poisonous substances were found in his body. The report couldn’t ascertain the cause of death. His heart and other samples have been preserved and will be sent to the forensic lab in Agra.
Police say initial investigations have ruled out a case of murder,
"The manner in which the door was locked from inside indicates suicide. Siras wanted to lodge FIR against AMU Registrar and other people in the administration," said Aligarh SP Mansingh Chauhan.
Siras, who was suspended by the University for being gay, was found dead on Wednesday evening at his residence.
However, AMU PRO Rahat Abrar justified Siras' suspension.
The university's decision to suspend Siras was not incorrect. Decision was in keeping with the rules and regulations of the university. But the university had received the Allahbad High Court order and issued a notice to reinstate Siras," said Abrar.
However, most students at the Aligarh Muslim University have condemned Siras' suspension.
"If they punished him according to Sharia, then they should remember that Sharia forbids anyone from peeking into someone else's private life, so all those who made an intrusion in his life should be punished," said a university student.
Just last Thursday, the Allahabad High Court had stayed Siras' suspension.
Siras had been filmed having sex with a rickshaw puller. He argued in court that the university action violated the Delhi High Court order decriminalising homosexuality.
