CHENNAI: Though the number of participants for this event outnumbered the audience, the enthusiasm and passion for music and theatre that were on display pleased many. Called Tribute, the evening was dedicated to people, things or instances that had inspired the various performing artistes. Despite the many shortcomings that came their way that evening, city-based groups did not falter or lose enthusiasm when it came to showcasing their dedication. On a makeshift stage at the Young Women Christian Association (YWCA), Egmore, the first group to perform was Nicholas Productions, who dedicated their performance to classical rock. Though the 10-odd member musical group looked cramped on stage, the enthusiasm and energy with which they performed was noteworthy, as they made the best use of the opportunity to showcase their talents. The next group was Chaotic Oblivion, who, despite missing some of their key members, gave a performance worth remembering. However, their tribute to life could have easily done with some more energy on stage. The next act by dancer Aparna Nagesh was quite touching, as she grooved theatrically, paying tribute to the unconditional love that our parents and loved ones have for us. However, it was the performance by Stagefright Productions that was easily the highlight of the evening. Paying tribute to music and theatre, the group interspersed short skits with musical performances. They had the audience sing along with them, as they performed hits from The Beatles, among other popular bands. The event was sponsored by Word of Life.
