KOCHI: The UDF on Monday formally announced its decision to field the late Minister T M Jacob’s son, Anoop Jacob, as its candidate for the Piravom bypoll. He will also be given a ministerial berth if he wins the bypoll, said UDF convener P P Thankachan in Kochi.Asked about the opinion by senior leader V M Sudheeran regarding the new liquor policy of the UDF Government, Thankachan said it was only a constructive criticism. Admitting that there were some drawbacks with the current liquor policy, he said Sudheeran wasn’t the only one with the same opinion. “Sudheeran did not say that the liquor policy would cause a set back in Piravom. That’s only an interpretation by some people,” he said.Answering a question, Thankachan said he never wanted to become the KTDC chairman, or the chairman of any board or corporation in the state.
