BANGALORE: The Lokayukta Special Court on Monday, which slammed the Medical Superintendent of Victoria Hospital over the health report of former minister Katta Subramanya Naidu who is under judicial custody, directed Dr B G Tilak, the superintendent, to provide answers to specific questions on Wednesday. After reading the report which said Victoria Hospital did not have the facilities to treat Naidu, Lokayukta Court Judge K N Sudheendra Rao said, “If the Victoria Hospital has no facility to treat this particular disease, which other hospitals have such facilities? Does every cancer patient go to London for treatment?”.The judge then sought answers to the three questions on Wednesday. They are : 1) What is Katta ailing from? 2) In which stage it is? and 3) What medical treatment he needs. Naidu was arrested in the KIADB-ITASCA multicrore land scam by the Lokayukta police. The hospital officials had earlier stated in the court that Naidu was suffering from diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cervical spondylytis and also from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer. Naidu was also treated in the Victoria Hospital as an inpatient in the VIP ward and best medical treatment was given to him. However, Katta’s counsels had argued that bail had to be granted on medical grounds.“Katta is suffering from cancer and he was treated at a private hospital in London His stem cells are preserved in that hospital under 166 degree celsius. He needs stem cell treatment again and the cells which were preserved will be used for treatment. Hence, he has to go to London. In India no hospital has such facility, the doctors of Victoria Hospital explained to the court.“Where is the proof and documents showing that stem cells are preserved in the London hospital? If so, are they still active? The court cannot accept the statements of accused or his relatives about this. The court wants documents for every statement. The doctors have to submit the report of biopsy tests about which type of cancer Katta is suffering and its intensity,” Judge K N Sudheendra Rao categorically told the doctors.
