Enraged over “irregularities” in rural postings for PG diploma medical students, junior doctors at the Osmania General Hospital (OGH) chained their hands and participated in a sit-in protest here on Wednesday.
Though the PG diploma MBBS students qualified in June, they have not joined their designated posts in rural areas.
Citing lack of transparency in the process of allotment, the junior doctors have demanded that the government specify, that the clause to serve in the rural hospitals was based on state guidelines and not the Medical Council of India (MCI) as claimed.
“The fault lies in the recruitment policies of the government.
Even in 2002 the issue of bonded service was discussed but was struck down after extensive discussions.
The allotment for rural postings were done in an underhanded manner and were marked with confusion as each official gave a different number for the vacancies available,” president of AP Junior Doctors’ Association K.
Aditya said.
The protesting students gheraoed the superintendent and head of department of anaesthesiology Dr.
Chandrasekhar at the hospital.
Students will continue their strike till their demands are met, APJUDA members said.
