Agra: Many of us have often been punished for arriving late to class, but this time, a UP Provincial Civil Service officer was made to wait outside her office for nearly one and a half hours after she failed to follow multiple 'last' warnings.
Susheela Agarwal, who works as additional municipal commissioner (AMC) in Mathura, was locked out of the room by her boss, the municipal commissioner, for arriving late to work on Monday.
"In hierarchy, she is next to me and hence should act responsibly towards her work and duties," municipal commissioner Sameer Verma told The Times of India, adding that she had been ignoring his verbal and written instructions for a long time.
Miffed with the 'punishment', AMC Susheela Agarwal said that the "municipal commissioner should have acted by rules and regulations". She dubbed the commissioner's action as "irresponsible".
However, Verma said that he was forced to take the step as Agarwal continued to arrive late for work despite being served show-cause notices.
Last year in March, then chief secretary Rahul Bhatnagar had issued a circular directing all government employees to be present in office on time on all working days. It also warned of action against those who failed to comply.
The TOI report said quoting officers that ever since these orders were issued, they were being enforced and salaries of several employees had been deducted in the past for reporting to office late.
