Assam alerts Army for National Games
Assam government has claimed that the forthcoming National Games will be hosted "with highest security cover" in the state.

New Delhi: After 70 Hindi-speaking people were killed by ULFA militants in the state, Assam government showed concern over the security issue for the National Games to be hosted by the state.

Assam Chief Secretary PC Sharma said that the forthcoming National Games will be hosted "with highest security cover" with army, paramilitary forces and police deployed at all venues of the Games.

He also said that the trains carrying athletes and spectators would be provided with special protection.

"Centre is providing all support and we are confidant of staging the Games successfully," Sharma was quoted by news agency PTI on Saturday.

"Army and paramilitary forces and state police are coordinating with each other and the situation has improved to a great extent," he added.

Sharma said the state government will do "everything possible" to restore confidence among non-Assamese people, who bore the brunt of recent ULFA attacks that claimed 70 lives.

Mathur said Assam Police were coordinating with their counterparts in other northeastern states to wipe out ULFA militants.

"Apart from the army and Central forces, we are coordinating with police forces of other states and I am confident that normalcy will be restored very soon," he said.
