The college organised a rally comprising of innovative street plays ,emphasising the importance of education in and around Parry’s. The awareness rally was inaugurated by State Assembly Speaker, D Jayakumar.The rally, ‘The Mark - Vantage of Wisdom’, which started on Adhipayappa Street progressed to Mint Street, before proceeding to Mannadi and took the route back to Adhipayappa Street where the college is situated. Around 1,500 people which included the enthusiastic participation of students from a host of departments in both the UG and PG courses of the college, teaching and non-teaching staff participated in the rally.The initiative was organised to raise awareness on the importance of education and brought out how education can bring about a change in the lives of people.The participants of the rally were also seen carrying placards with relevant messages highlighting the theme of the event. Street plays  were staged to send out an elaborate message themed around - Why Education?Speaking at the event, D. Jayakumar explained the importance of education and added that it is education that gives students the ideal scope to excel in life.“True to the objective of educating all, this initiative will create awareness calling for education to be an important aspect of each and every person’s life,” he addedJayakumar emphasised that those who have access to education must make a conscious attempt to pass on the benefits of education and teach others.V Sampath Kumari, Convenor, Citizen’s Consumer Club of the College added that the rally was a reality check for people to know how many children are working as child labourers today.She said, “We want everyone to get education, that’s the objective behind observing International Literacy Day.”first published:September 05, 2012, 08:23 ISTlast updated:September 05, 2012, 08:23 IST
