CHENNAI: In an effort to create awareness among children on World Population Day, ‘Imsai Arasi’ fame RJ Ophelia of Big FM, who won the RJ of the year award at the Indian Excellence in Radio awards last year, hosted a talk show with musical genius GV Prakash and the starry-eyed youngsters of Guruji Matriculation School, Vadapalani.Keeping away from bombarding the school students with mind-boggling statistics and at the same time ingraining the message with her humorous punch- lines, RJ Ophelia stayed true to her style and bowled over the kids with her infectious enthusiasm. The studio resonated with messages about awareness on population control punctuated with giggling fits among the kids. “I will give updates in facebook about my day here and spread the message,” said Rajesh Kanna, Class 7 student, at the end of the show.Taking cue from her day-out at the studio, V Sruthi, a Class 6 student declared, “Unless the population is controlled, the country will be forced to face problems such as food crisis and large scale unemployment.”The programme also saw RJ Dheena of BIG FM come up with ‘innovative suggestions’ to address the issue. “We can show the current school fee structure to parents to control the population growth.”On a serious note, he said that with the India’s current population being 1.21 billion, the nation should tackle the issue only if each individual is committed to family planning, he added.GV Prakash, who pledged his support to the campaign and dished out words of wisdom to the students, said that awareness is the key to tackling the problem of population explosion in the country. He also entertained the kids with his gig to underscore the burden of population boom. The students also got an opportunity to quiz the critically acclaimed musician about his upcoming ventures during the course of the live programme.
