Baby hippo and mother bonding well

BANGALORE: A baby hippopotamus weighing around 40 kilograms was born in the hippopotamus enclosure at the Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) premises around 12 noon on Wednesday.The mother and the father of the baby hippopotamus were also born in the same enclosure. Naga, the father is about eight years and Kaveri, the mother is about four years old. According to a release issued by  Dr R Raju, Executive Director, BBP, both the mother and the baby are healthy and very social. With the addition of this baby hippopotamus, the number of hippopotamus population in the BBP has risen to eight.In 1997, two hippopotamuses namely Karthik and Sitha were brought from the Mysore Zoo to the BBP for the purpose of breeding.  Now the number of hippopotamuses in the BBP is eight and they hope that it will rise further.
