Bangalore: Bangalore Police has shut down more than 1000 ATMs of different banks for not following the recent security guidelines. After a murderous attack on a woman banker at an ATM, last week the city police had ordered all banks to post security guards outside the ATMs round the clock or face closure. The deadline expired on Sunday evening.

In a swift action, more than 1000 unguarded ATMs across the city were shut by the police. These ATMs can be reopened only if they strictly adhere to new security norms.

When some banks contacted the police seeking more time to implement the government order on Monday morning, the police refused to give an extension on the grounds that the banks can't be lax even after such a horrible incident.

The Bangalore Police Commissioner Raghavendra H Auradkar had issued an order instructing all banks in Bangalore to follow the guidelines or face action on last Thursday. By using his special powers as the Additional District Magistrate of Bangalore, he had ordered all the banks to take following security measures before November 24.

The guidelines are:

1) 24-hour security guards to man all ATMs

2) CCTV surveillance of all ATM kiosks that capture images outside and inside the ATM kiosk

3) An alarm system should be installed in every ATM
