BANGALORE:The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner Siddaiah held a meeting with the Joint, Additional Commissioners of all zones on environmental issues.A release by the BBMP stated that the commissioner discussed about 'Brick on edge' on trees and the feedback by the public on the issue.It was decided that 1.5/1.5 meters around the tree would be left for arresting water. It was also said that it would also cost the Palike Rs 1,500-2,000 per tree. The price would go up to Rs 3,000 in the case of bigger trees.He said that a comprehensive action plan should be brought about after surveying trees in all wards. It was also decided that the project should be financed by local establishments in the vicinity and that the Palike should not use its funds.The commissioner stated that since this was in the interest of safeguarding the environment, industries and institutions with such interests, should be roped in for assistance. The meeting also decided to celebrate the World Environment Day on June 5 in a meaningful manner. They would plant 1 lakh saplings as part of the celebrations on this day. Siddaiah stated that a concerted effort of all the departments would go into this and all 1 lakh saplings should be planted without spending even a penny on the operations.
