Mumbai: Mumbai may be back on track after the 7/11 serial blasts, but beneath the bindaas spirit of the city, the tension is evident. Ruksh Chatterji reports on how the bombings have changed the way passengers travel.

But a ride on any of the trains and the fallout of the bombings is clearly seen on the overhead racks, most of which remain empty.

Sixty-one-year-old Suraj Hemrajani, a consultant in a financial firm, who has travelled on these trains for over thirty years now prefers to keep his briefcase on his lap. The reason?

"I keep it so that no one questions me like 'what are you keeping in there'. Now people are alert at what is being put there," Hemrajani said.

After the Police investigations showed that the bombers had kept their deadly parcels on the overhead racks even passengers who have to travel standing prefer to keep their bags with them.

"Nowadays I always keep my bag with myself. You never know when somebody puts something in your bag. It is very inconvenient but what can I do," a passenger, Praful Kohle said.

So apart from taking on the heat, humidity and being packed in like sardines, passengers now jostle for space along with their bags. But, according to them it's a small price to pay for staying alive.

What's your reaction?
