Kolkata: In yet another acid attack in West Bengal, a college girl in Arambagh in Hooghly district was seriously injured on Monday when unidentified youths threw vitriol at her, police said.
The second year student of Netaji Mahavidyalaya suffered burn injuries on her back, hands and legs after two motorbike-riding youths threw acid on her outside the college.
Despite a ban on the sale of acid, the state has witnessed several attacks in the recent past.
Last week, a woman college goer in Burdwan district suffered injuries on her face and eyes while another girl fell victim in Tamluk in East Midnapore district earlier in the month.
According to Acid Survivors Foundation India (ASFI), a non-government organisation, 83 acid attacks were reported in West Bengal between 2006 and 2013 resulting in injuries to at least 121 people, most of them women.
