Police said they have arrested 32-year-old Girish in connection with the case and have charged him with murder, adding that Farida worked in a spa and Girish was an employee of a private firm

A 42-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her male friend on Sunday in Bengaluru’s Shalini Grounds in Jayanagar, said police. The woman identified as Farida Khanum belonged to Kolkata, and was living in a lodge.

Police said they have arrested 32-year-old Girish in connection with the case and have charged him with murder, adding that Farida worked in a spa and Girish was an employee of a private firm.

They were in a relationship and had known each other for the last ten years. Girish was unhappy with the nature of her job and was forcing her to quit against her wishes, which led to fights between them, reported news agency, PTI.

Farida was separated from her husband and was taking care of her two daughters. Also, Farida’s husband died recently, said police.

However, various media reports suggest that Girish proposed her to marriage, but she rejected it. In a fit of rage, Girish stabbed her at least 15 times and then surrendered at the Jayanagar police station.

According to police, Girish had converted to Islam in 2011 due to difficulties in finding a match for his sister but reverted to his original name while still adhering to some Islamic practices, reported India Today.

On Saturday, after an argument over the same issue, Girish attacked her with a knife. Some passers-by noticed her in a pool of blood and rushed her to a hospital where she was declared dead, police said.

Police suspect it to be a premeditated murder as he was carrying a knife and said that further investigations are on. A case under section 302 of the IPC has been registered.
