As per information, Tripathi planned the attack on himself to extort Rs 20 lakh from his opponents. The attack went wrong when the knife accidentally punctured his lungs.

Lucknow: Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha leader Pratyush Mani Tripathi, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Uttar Pradesh on Monday night, had planned the attack himself to get government security and frame his opponents, police have said.

Speaking to News18, Senior Superintendent of Police Lucknow, Kalanidhi Naithani, said: “Five close associates of Tripathi have been detained in this connection. As per information, Tripathi planned the attack on himself to extort Rs 20 lakh from his opponents.”

Tripathi, 34, was attacked on Monday night in Badshahnagar and was left bleeding on the road. According to the police, he was rushed to the trauma centre at the King George's Medical University (KGMU) where he was declared dead on arrival.

As per the information, Tripathi had asked five of his associates to arrange for a knife, which was procured from Aminabad locality, and then asked them to stage an attack. However, the attack went wrong when the knife accidentally punctured his lungs. Tripathi’s aides fled from the spot as they learnt his condition was deteriorating.

Shortly after Tripathi was declared dead, hundreds of supporters protested outside the hospital and raised slogans against the police, demanding immediate suspension of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Naithani. The agitating crowd also alleged that the police paid no heed even as Tripathi informed the chief about threats to his life.

Pratima Tripathi, the wife of the deceased, has alleged that her husband was murdered. In a written complaint, she has named five men, who, according to her, are responsible for her husband’s death. She has further demanded police security for her family and said strict action must be taken against the culprits.
