New Delhi: The beam from a projector in a darkened theatre illuminating the dreams and aspirations of millions who throng to watch the spectacle called Hindi cinema.
Though only a 100 years young, Hindi cinema has managed to unite a diverse Nation by the sheer ability to influence collective mass consciousness.
That is the power of the World's largest entertainment industry - an industry that has woven dreams, created stars, shaped destinies and built legends.
To pay tribute to this magical world of stories, characters, stars, music and heady passion, History TV 18 has launched Bollywood@100 - a sepia tinted quest for 100 untold stories over the past 100 years. Broken thematically across five episodes these 100 moments from cinema history will be strung together by a modern day sutradhar - Karan Johar.
Bollywood@100 will also have a Nationwide Poll, asking people to vote in for the greatest talent from across the 100 years of Hindi cinema. An eminent jury has picked a list of names in the categories of the greatest hero, heroine, director, composer, lyricist and playback singers. These lists will be opened to the people for voting online for a period of six weeks. The jury and the popular votes will have equal weightage in choosing the winner in each category.
The winners will be unveiled in a TV show. No razzmatazz, no performances, no media circus. Bollywood@ 100's Grand Finale will be a rare insight into Hindi cinema, its ethos, its greats, its technology, its narrative, its melody and its madness - from the perspective of the one man who defines it - Mr Amitabh Bachchan.
