It’s called India: Then And Now. So, you might be expecting a dry academic read. But this coffee-table book (published by Roli) is definitely the one you'd want for your collection.

It’s got breathtaking pictures, like the giant pullout of the Qutub Minar in Delhi, as well as Lucknow from 1885 and Calcutta.

The text (brief history and captions) was written by Mukherjee and Sanghvi, while the pictures have been sourced from everywhere, including archives and private collections like the AlKazi collection.

Released in December, the book costs more than Rs 3,000, so it will make a dent in your pocket.

But it is nothing if not slick, slick photos, slick design; and the cool idea of having a book open from both sides (one for India Then and the other for India Now) also works!

If you get a chance, do flip through it at least. The images will definitely stay with you.

This review is only testament to that old over-used dictum: A picture is worth a thousand words. You gotta see 'em to believe 'em.

What's your reaction?
