KOCHI: The tender for the new solid waste treatment plant at Brahmapuram will be floated on Tuesday, said Urban Affairs Minister Manjalamkuzhi Ali, on Monday, after a district meeting held here to review the pre-monsoon preparations.“The plant will have the capacity to treat 500 tonnes of waste per day and will also have the technology to generate electricity from waste,” said Ali. Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Tony Chammany said that the `6.25-crore project to construct a septage treatment facility  adjacent to the sewage treatment plant at Elamkulam will be implemented soon. Health Minister V S Sivakumar said that two teams consisting of doctors specialised in different fields will be formed to dispense round-the-clock service. “As part of our efforts to curb the break out of contagious diseases, emergency control rooms will be set up in all major hospitals in the district. As for the pre-monsoon clean-up drive, all the wards have been allotted an amount of `25,000 each to conduct the clean-up activities in the area. Measures will also be taken to ensure hygiene and food quality in the wayside eateries in the city,” Shivakumar added.A review meeting to check the implementation of the decisions taken in the meeting will be held in the first week of June.The meeting was attended by Water Resources Minister P J Joseph, Excise Minister K Babu, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Anoop Jacob, MLAs Hibi Eden, Dominic Presentation, Anwar Sadat, District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth, Kochi Corporation  Mayor Tony Chammany, chairpersons of the municipalities in the district, corporation officials , Kerala Water Authority and District Health Department.
