BANGALORE: Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has finally begun doing their job by laying new sanitary pipelines across the city. Currently the BWSSB is laying these pipes on St John’s Road near RBANMS grounds. If all goes well the sewage will be transported to the treatment plants efficiently without any hassles.According to the BWSSB officials the work that began a week ago is still in progress and will take more time before its completion. However, while the civic body is busy in dirt upto their knees, the commuters using this road are facing many problems. Due to the work they have to know take a much longer route. “I travel by this road frequently and due to this work I have to take a diversion from Anna Swamy Mudiliar Road which is very time consuming for me and this has led to increase in traffic flow in the alternate route” said Ramesh a commuter. The project has been undertaken in order to transport sewage from Jain hospital situated on Millers Road to the treatment plan at KNC valley in Koramangala. The work has been divided into phases. At the moment the work on St Johns Road is in progress and the next phase would be at Veerapillai Street then on Kamaraj Road. Despite the BWSSB placing a sign board warning commuters about the work in progress, motorists still try to venture through this part of the road. The callous attitude of the motorists is not only adding to the jam and the chaos on the road, it is also adding burden to the work of the workers and the authorities as they now have to take extra measures to ensure that the locals do not use the road. Also, the huge cylindrical concrete pipes which have been lying on the footpath since time immemorial might come to some use now. It seems to be providing shelter to cattle and mankind alike. Since the pipes have been lying there for long now, people have started using it as a dumpyard. “I have been seeing these pipes lying here since a very long time. I do not understand why the authorities are not making use of it and have left them here,” said Lakshmi a resident. When contacted, Kumar, the BWSSB assistant executive engineer said “The work at St Johns Road will get over by the month end. Once the work commences here the other phases will be dealt with.”
